Writing & Photography Guidelines

Florida Currents is a monthly, family-oriented, general-interest publication that rural electric cooperatives in Florida use to communicate with their members. Readers are predominantly rural, small-town residents who are interested in stories about people and issues that affect their Florida lifestyle. The cornerstone of the magazine is its colorful personality features. Florida Currents rarely buys stories about subjects outside of Florida, and it is not a market for poetry, short fiction or boilerplate features.

Amount of payment is agreed upon ahead of time and varies depending on scope, nature and reach of the work. Stories and artwork are purchased as a package. Payment is on acceptance of the completed package. Lead time for seasonal articles is four months.

Tips for Getting Published in Florida Currents

  • Familiarize yourself with our content. We are especially interested in human-interest features about Floridians in the communities we serve.
  • Whet our appetite with a sample lead, then briefly outline where the story will go. Cite sources and photo possibilities.
