History

The Parkesdale Market began when founder R.E. Parke emigrated from Northern Ireland and settled with his family in Plant City in 1956. The family was drawn to the area due to its reputation as a prime location for growing winter vegetables and strawberries. The Parkes were so successful they began selling their strawberries and produce nationwide. In 1969, the family opened Parkesdale Market, which offers fresh produce, homemade treats and glimpses of beautiful farmland.

When to Visit

The Florida strawberry season is December through March. In tune with the season, the market is open daily from November to April, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the off season, the market is open Wednesdays through Sundays.

A World-Famous Treat

From January 2 to mid-April, people come for the strawberry shortcake. The cake is full of fresh, in-season strawberries from the fields. Summer visitors can enjoy strawberry milkshakes and other delicious treats.

More in Plant City

For a full weekend of strawberry festivities, Plant City holds the Florida Strawberry Festival each spring. The next one is set for March 2-12, 2023. The market is a part of the festival and just down the road from the main event.
